Cheeky rhymes and sneaky sax lines simmer before erupting into a raucous, synth-heavy blowout. With this track — and its joint home-movie–style music video — Monstress immortalizes the anchor of friendship and the fierce, loyal love you hold for your platonic soulmate.

Accompanying Monstress’ single Footnotes is a home-video–style music video shot by the band and edited by Sarah Homeh. The video cements the song’s subtext by personifying the power of honesty and loyalty in a relationship. It immortalizes the anchor of friendship and the fierce, unwavering love you hold for your platonic soulmate.

Inspired by the intro sequence of Yellowjackets, Sarah found herself fascinated — and, admittedly, struck with a bit of FOMO. That sequence weaves together fragments of home videos, teasing out easter eggs while revealing glimpses of the girls’ lives that the audience will never fully access.

By shooting their own home videos and editing them into a raucous, chaotic, heartfelt collage, Monstress invites their audience into a sneak preview of their world — the friendship that binds the band, the chemistry that keeps them creating the way they do, and the life behind the scenes that listeners wouldn’t otherwise see.

From the album artwork to the music video, every asset was crafted from pure time, care, and creative energy.

This project pays homage to the indie artist in all of us — the part that believes in telling a story using whatever we have right in front of us.
